Mr. Mohan’s achievements and contributions.
Strengthening India–Singapore Ties: A Personal Contribution
During the visit of Narendra Modi to Singapore in 2015, a landmark public event was conducted for the Indian diaspora. The event, attended by a large number of NRIs, marked an important moment in strengthening bilateral relations between India and Singapore.
To ensure the event was conducted in a structured and professional manner, the High Commission of India in Singapore sought the guidance of Mr Mohan. Based on his advice, a non-profit public company limited by guarantee, NRI Forum Limited, was incorporated in 2015.
This entity played a pivotal role in:
- Transparently managing donations and contributions
- Overseeing event-related expenditures
- Ensuring proper governance and accountability
Mr Mohan served as an advisor throughout the process. Following the successful completion of its purpose, the company was formally wound up in 2018.
Indian Companies in Singapore: Driving Global Trade
Singapore continues to be a strategic hub for international trade, attracting a significant number of Indian enterprises. Today, it is estimated that over 11,000 Indian companies operate in Singapore, making it one of the largest overseas bases for Indian businesses.
Between 2010 and 2014, during his tenure as Chairman of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Mohan led a major initiative to document and map the presence of Indian companies in Singapore.
Key highlights of this initiative:
- Compilation and publication of two directories featuring 1,000 and 2,500 companies respectively
- Extensive research and collaboration with stakeholders, including the High Commission of India in Singapore
- At the time, approximately 5,000 Indian companies had been identified and recorded
This effort not only provided valuable insights into the Indian business ecosystem in Singapore but also contributed to strengthening economic and trade linkages between the two nations.
