SMC Launches Specialty Chip Plant in Singapore

VSMC has officially opened its new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in the city-state’s high-tech sector. The plant will produce specialty chips ranging from 40 nanometre (nm) to 130 nm, supporting a variety of advanced electronics and industrial applications.

Semiconductors play a vital role in Singapore’s economy, representing approximately 8% of GDP and employing 10% of the workforce. According to the Economic Development Board (EDB), Singapore contributes 10% of the global semiconductor supply and manufactures 20% of the world’s semiconductor equipment, underscoring its strategic importance in the global technology supply chain.
